VNA nurse recognized for infectious warmth and care

SALMON VNA & Hospice announced Hospice Clinical Director Anne Luippold, RN, BSN.Onc., won a Clinician of the Year Award from Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts. Given annually, the award celebrates “the exceptional accomplishments of the everyday heroes in our midst who make incredible differences in the lives of their patients/clients and their families.”

SALMON VNA & Hospice Executive Director Mark Surprenant says, “Anne’s knowledge of her patients, their conditions and how to soothe their symptoms in order to bring quality and dignity to the dying process is simply amazing.” He states that Anne’s 25+ years of experience, her willingness to support colleagues, patients and their family members at any hour, her refusal to settle for offering anything less than the best care, and her compassionate, nurturing demeanor make her an amazing asset to SALMON’s hospice program.

Anne, who began her nursing career in the U.K., says, “To be awarded for something I love doing is an incredible honor. I feel very privileged the Salmon family gave me the opportunity to continue doing in the U.S. what I’d done for many years in the U.K.

“We [in hospice] can’t stop what, for many families and friends, will be a sad event, but we can make a difference in how it happens so those who are leaving this world can leave comfortably, focusing on where they are going, and those who are left behind can know those who left died in comfort.

“My work is about doing for another human being what I hope would be done for me.”

As part of SALMON’s Hospice care, Anne works with a team of home health, medical social services, spiritual care and bereavement professionals, as well as volunteers, who address the diverse needs of our patients and offer their families support.

Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts, a non-profit trade association of home care agencies, reports this year’s nominations were so outstanding that three individuals won the Clinician of the Year Award. The winners will receive their awards during Home Care Alliance’s “Our Time to Shine” event on Tuesday, June 14th.
