Beaumont Westborough Nursing Home Resident Testimonial: “The best rehab he could receive.”

Read Thomas’ story

When Thomas Feola came to Beaumont at Westborough Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, he and his family had been told that he would never walk again. In a conversation with Beaumont at Westborough’s Director of Rehabilitation Kylene Patterson, OTR/L, MHA, Thomas’ wife Lori discussed her family’s experience at Beaumont and Thomas’ improvement since coming to the Beaumont Westborough nursing home.

Beaumont is the fourth rehabilitation center Thomas has been admitted to since suffering a stroke, with his medical issues and complications beginning in June 2017. His family selected SALMON Health and Retirement after a family member shared a positive experience at another Beaumont community. Lori described his improved condition as “drastic,” and credits the extensive therapy he has received at Beaumont at Westborough, which has enabled him to regain his strength and ability to walk — something that had been ruled out by previous care providers.

Individual patients have varying goals and milestone markers based on their conditions and needs. In discussing what was most important in terms of Thomas’ recovery and care, Lori shared that that it was his rehabilitation program, so that he could begin to walk again or at least transfer from one position to another independently in order to return home.

Lori’s first priority is her husband’s well-being. In addition to the progress she has seen him make through his rehabilitation program, Lori and her family have enjoyed visiting the Westborough campus and getting to know the bright, welcoming staff throughout Thomas’ stay at Beaumont.

Remembering an experience that stands out to her during Thomas’ time at the nursing center, Lori recalled the moment he walked with his therapists for the first time after being told he would never walk again. Staff members were able to capture this milestone on video and share with family members to celebrate his achievement.

When Thomas first arrived at Beaumont at Westborough, he required two people to lift him out of bed. Today, he is transferring almost independently. This quick and significant progress was beyond Thomas’ family’s expectations.

“This is the best rehab he could receive,” Lori said.
