Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester is partnering with Burncoat Preparatory Elementary School for the second year in a row to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Wrap-Around Coordinator for Burncoat School, Jennifer Sears, says the partnership between the school and senior living community emerged from her friendship with Director of Network Development at SALMON Health and Retirement, Andrew Salmon.
“Andrew and I have been friends since we were young,” says Sears. Several years ago, Sears and Salmon reconnected and created a partnership between the two organizations by offering Burncoat students volunteer opportunities in the SALMON communities. The partnership grew as Sears reached out to Salmon about Thanksgiving meals.
“The best part about being a part of a family business is the freedom to help others through action,” explains Salmon. “When Jen brought up the idea, it was an immediate ‘yes,’ knowing her commitment to her students and the positive impact it would have on them. Great things happen when ‘two Worcester kids’ set their minds to something!”
“We want all of the students at Burncoat to enjoy a full, traditional Thanksgiving meal, and our students love the food from Beaumont at Worcester. In years past, we’ve partnered with the football team at Worcester Polytechnic Institute to serve the meals,” explains Sears.
This year will be slightly different. While still providing meals, Director of Resident Dining at Beaumont at Worcester, Philip Chisholm, explains that the Thanksgiving meals will be individually prepared and packaged. “Students will be able to take the meals home,” says Chisholm. “The meals will still be the full-course; turkey, stuffing, side vegetables—the whole nine yards!”
Chisholm continues that Beaumont at Worcester really wanted to “help other organizations in the community; we are glad to partner with the Burncoat School again this year.”
“I am proud that we can continue to provide a great experience to Burncoat students and I am grateful to the Beaumont at Worcester team for showing the greater community what I already know—they’re simply the best,” says Salmon.
“Philip has been very gracious,” states Sears. “He’s been so willing to do something for the students at Burncoat, and this Thanksgiving season, we are very, very thankful for SALMON.”
