Employee Spotlight: Andrew Salmon, Director of Network Development

Andrew Salmon, a third-generation member of the Salmon family, was introduced to the family business serving older adults at an early age. Working as a transporter for residents, then later in the maintenance and dietary departments, Andrew experienced the importance of compassion and caretaking early in life before embarking on his own career in senior healthcare. After working for a national nursing home chain for several years, Andrew joined SALMON Health and Retirement full-time as the administrator of Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center at Northbridge in 2006. Today he the company’s Director of Network Development.

“It was never my plan to work in the family business,” Andrew says, “but I was really proud of the work my siblings were doing and decided to join them. I’m very happy I made that choice.”

SALMON Health and Retirement has always been in the forefront of innovation and growth in the industry. The Westborough campus, for example, began as a unique concept in the senior care industry as the first for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). That concept remains today: The Willows Premier Retirement Community for Active Adults, Whitney Place Assisted Living and Memory Care and Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, all at that location, bring high quality, different service levels to meet changing needs.

Innovation and Resident success are top priorities

“Our residents’ success is our only priority,” Andrew says. “We want to make sure every individual who comes to us gets what they need, while allowing them their greatest possible independence. We see the ‘whole person’ and use the options available on our campuses to find what best suits their situation, including highly individualized care plans, which are adjusted as needed.”

In his role as Director of Network Development, Andrew is responsible for building strong relationships with key healthcare and business partners, ensuring the admission system is working well to help new customers find the right SALMON community, and making sure current clients and residents experience the continuum of care comfortably. He has overseen the creation of a number of programs and processes in his role, contributing to a more efficient, integrated system benefiting everyone SALMON serves. One he’s particularly proud of is the Continuum Meeting, where campus administrators come together to assess how they can best help clients and residents. Whether they are returning home or continuing to stay at a SALMON community, residents and clients have the organization’s care providers working to ensure they achieve and maintain the highest level of personal independence that is safe for them.

As a lifelong competitive athlete, Andrew has learned many lessons he applies to his job at SALMON, including cultivating humility. He was driven to a career in senior care because of his parents’ passion for helping others and he views himself as a custodian of their vision, living the values of the SALMON family each day.
