Alzheimer's Support Groups

Free and Open to the Public

Our support groups welcome caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease or memory loss, offering them informal settings to share feelings, ideas, concerns and even some laughter. Brainstorming creative solutions for challenging caregiving situations, facilitated by a professional trained in dementia care, is a common focus of each meeting.

Our support group participants come from a variety of situations: some people are caring for another living in their home, while others have concerns about people with memory loss residing in assisted living or skilled nursing centers; still others are early-stage Alzheimer’s patients themselves.

All of our support groups are affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter.

Meetings are free of charge, open to the public, conveniently located on multiple campuses and handicapped accessible. Light refreshments are served at these sessions. Respite care during daytime groups is available free of charge with advance notice. Because seating is limited, we ask that participants call to reserve a space.

“Family caregivers often tell me that having to make all of the decisions for another person is very difficult. Our meetings offer a valuable opportunity for people to get help with these decisions from others in the group who have faced the same challenge,” Tapestry Program Director Diane Tonelli, SALMON Health and Retirement

“Attending a support group is a good way to avoid a crisis,” says Robbin Hutchins, LSW, who helps lead the Northbridge Alzheimer's and Dementia Caregivers Support Group. “You can get help solving problems here; people often find comfort and hope. Whether you’re upset, not coping well, need a referral for services or a cup of coffee with others who understand what you’re going through, this is the place to be. It’s great to know you’re not alone.”
